About Me
Overview
Well, hello there! I understand you’re interested in learning who the heck the brain behind this operation is. Well, I’m not that much of an interesting person, but if you insist…
My name is Christine, nice to meet you. How old do you think I look in that pic? 13? 16? Young enough to still require a children’s menu at a restaurant? Well, those were all good guesses. I’m actually 21 years young (I’ll be 22 on March 4, 2009… woohoo!). I’m told all the time, though, that I look younger than I am. I suppose I’ll appreciate it more when I’m 30…
So, what do I do other than hole myself up in my room all day long working on this site? Well, I’m a college student. I’m getting a degree in Literature, Writing, and Film, with the hopes of being an entertainment writer and/or reporter. My dream job would be to work for the E! Network or MTV.
I also do the normal things, like annoy my family, spend all of my money on food and handmade jewelry from Ebay, watch Friends reruns when there’s nothing better to do, and audition for American Idol (I’ve done that twice… first time was in San Diego in 2007, and the second time was in Phoenix in 2008).
Sarcasm is my weapon of choice. I use it for many different purposes, but usually as a kick in the ass to someone who’s annoying me. But I also use it in awkward situations, the perfect moments, and those “wtf?” moments. I also love making up quotes. One of my favorites is “‘White House, Black Market’ is so boring. If I had it my way, it’d be ‘Pink Poodle, Blue Sky.’”
So I’m allergic to peppermint. Whenever I tell people this, they’re always like “wtf?” but it’s true. I’m just really sensitive to it, and get sick to my stomach even if I just smell it. So unfortunately, I’m stripped of partaking in two very important events like a normal human being: Christmas (candy canes) and Girl Scout Cookies time (thin mints). But that’s okay, I’ve found alternatives (cherry candy canes and Samoas).
So I once sort of hung out with Michelle Branch. My brother was an intern for Warner Music Group at the time, and managed to snag two tickets to a private concert, right next to the stage. Afterwards, we attended an autograph signing, and after that, we got to chat with her for a few minutes in her greenroom. We then escorted her out to her limo. As we were about to leave, her band came up to us and asked if we could give them a ride to their next venue (in the city) because they didn’t have a ride, so I had the pleasure of sitting in between two of her bandmates (one of which is her current husband) in the backseat and having them tell me that I listen to satan music :x It’s okay though, it’s not everyday that you get to be a groupie for a big celebrity!
Well, before I conclude, you might want to know how I got into web design. Unfortunately, I don’t have some elaborate story. And thank goodness I don’t have a piczo story…. to be perfectly honest, I just got bored one day in 2004, so I started an MSN Group called Everything Entertainment. I started out by scanning in a few pictures of my favorite actors from some magazines I had laying around, and uploading them. I then just wrote up some quick bios for them using the page builder for the group. As I started perusing through the Groups network, I started to stumble across some design groups. Wanting my group to look like theirs, I decided to request a banner from one group. That’s when I decided that I wanted to make my own, so I borrowed my stepdad’s old CorelDraw 8 (equivalent to a really crappy version of Adobe InDesign or Illustrator). I didn’t understand this bit about resizing pictures, and pixels, and blending, so I just copied and pasted some pics next to each other, and made some illegibly pixelated banners. I did that for about 3 months until I managed to convince my stepdad to buy me PSP 9 from ebay for $40 (I was unaware of Photoshop at the time, because everyone I communicated with was using PSP 9). And that’s when my entire world opened up. I started getting really serious about designing, but still knew nothing about coding. That’s when my stepdad suggested I learn HTML, and referred me to PageTutor to learn the basics. Although I had learned the bare minimum from that tutorial, it really sparked an interest in me, and I realized that design and coding goes hand-in-hand, and you can’t have one without the other. A few months after, I really started to get into Myspace. That’s when I started studying Myspace layout codes in order to teach myself CSS. And this whole time, I was continuously refining my design skills, and was actually a designer at both my new group, « urban decay », and at several other design groups, taking requests daily. After having my group shut down due to a spat with another member, and after feeling overwhelmed by all of the requests, I decided to take a break from Groups, which ultimately led to me leaving and venturing into the hosted world. During my hiatus from Groups, I worked diligently to hone my coding skills. After many months, I finally decided to buy this domain in June 2008, and the rest is history :)
I got so into graphic design that I even decided to major in it for a semester at my university. But after being told, word-for-word, that I wasn’t what they were “looking for”, and that I should explore some other majors, I decided to drop the major and search for what my real passion was. That’s when I realized my passion was writing. Although I still to this day love designing, I knew that I much more enjoyed writing blogs than coding/designing them. I’d rather spend my evening writing a poem or a funny version of events from my day, rather than writing PHP and CSS. So that’s when I decided to start using simple premade themes and focus my attention on my writing. I also transformed this site into a journal of sorts, and eliminated all resources and tutorials. That chapter of my life is behind me now, and it’s time to start fresh and new.
Well, now you know me. I’m a dreamer. I believe in peace. I love to love, and be loved. I want to travel the world. Music completes my world. I write. Laughing is my favorite. If you want to know even more (okay, stalker…), you can find me here:
